NEW CHIEF IN TOWN---Independence has a new interim Police Chief, Frank M. Edwards, III, who was appointed by Mayor Michael Ragusa and the Board of Aldermen during their meeting on Jan. 11.  On Wednesday, Jan. 27, the town held a swearing-in ceremony for the new chief, with Judge Brenda Bedsole Ricks presiding, and five more of the parish's top elected officials, including the chief's brother, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards, Judge Blair D. Edwards, District Attorney Scott Perrilloux, Parish President Gordon Burgess, and Clerk of Court Julian Dufreche.
